JourneyWell by HealthPartners tobacco cessation program, Partners in Quitting, recognized by National Cancer Institute

Recognized as a Research-tested Intervention Program (RTIP) for work with smokeless tobacco cessation

Research-tested Intervention ProgramsMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Aug. 31, 2010 - JourneyWell by HealthPartners tobacco cessation program, Partners in Quitting, has been recognized by the National Cancer Institute and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as a Research-tested Intervention Program (RTIPs) for its work with smokeless tobacco cessation.

RTIPs is a searchable database of cancer control interventions and program materials that are designed to provide program planners and public health practitioners with access to research-tested materials. RTIPs recognized programs are likely to have a higher success rate because they have been systematically tested in the field and have been published in a peer-review journal.

For a program to be recognized as a RTIP, it must be published in a peer-reviewed journal; evidence of outcomes must be demonstrated in at least one study, using an experimental or quasi-experimental design; and the intervention must have messages, materials and/or other components that can be used in a community or clinic setting.

Programs are reviewed by the National Registry of Evidence-based programs and practices. Interventions are scored on 16 criteria and reported on the following: research integrity; intervention impact; and dissemination capability. Once reviewed, programs are posted on the RTIPs website and associated materials are made available for use.

The Partners in Quitting program is available for all tobacco users. The program is designed to help individuals with tobacco cessation from any tobacco product.
